Very insightful article, you are right, analyzing the situation reduces the risk for bad decisions. When it comes to medical world things change a little bit, many decisions have a certain degree of uncertainty, the responsibility is huge because we are dealing with people's lives and such situations can become very pressing.

Um, maybe my point wasn't clear. The Fast Company article wasn't about the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of treatment. It was about the human's reluctance to take action when it would entail a further choice.

I think this is about the placebo effect or placebo response, the therapeutic and healing effect of an inert medicine or ineffective therapy,because sometimes a placebo effect (or its counterpart, the nocebo effect), occurs when a patient's symptoms are altered in some way by a treatment, like in drug rehab programs, due to the individual expecting or believing that it will work.
