Windows ScrumWorks Pro Server Upgrade Guide for Release 3.2

Thank you for using ScrumWorks Pro! The ScrumWorks Pro Upgrade Guide is intended to help administrators migrate from ScrumWorks Basic or older versions of ScrumWorks Pro to the latest stable ScrumWorks Pro. For users upgrading from ScrumWorks Basic, Windows upgrade is limited to ScrumWorks Basic version 1.8.3. If you are installing from scratch, then please refer to the Windows Installation Guide instead.
Upgrade from ScrumWorks Basic or ScrumWorks Pro to ScrumWorks Pro latest stable release
Before you begin, please back up your data. Although the upgrade process should not affect your existing data, it is always a good idea to back up data before upgrading.

  1. Backup your data
Backup the existing ScrumWorks Basic/Pro database.

  2. Download the latest ScrumWorks Pro
Obtain the latest stable version of ScrumWorks Pro Windows distribution from the ScrumWorks Pro Upgrade web site. Note, the upgrade distribution is identical to the distribution used for fresh installations.

    1. Load the ScrumWorks Pro Upgrade web site in a web browser:
      http://danube.com/scrumworks/pro/upgrade

    2. Enter your Case ID number and the maximum users in your license. These two values can be found by loading the ScrumWorks Pro Desktop Client and navigating to the "Help" menu. Select "About" from the "Help" menu and note the values for the "Case ID" and "Licensed Users"

    3. Select the latest Windows platform distribution and download.

    4. Extract the ZIP file into a temporary directory.

  3. Run Installer
Run the "ScrumWorks Server Setup.exe" file. Review and accept the License, or click "Cancel" to exit at any time.

  4. Choose Install Location
Choose whether to upgrade an existing installation in place, or install ScrumWorks Pro parallel to an existing installation. If installed in a parallel location, the installer will still provide an option to migrate data from existing installation without over-writing that installation.

    Upgrade Existing Installation (Over-write)
    • To upgrade an existing installation, input the location of the installation to upgrade in the Destination Folder field on the "Choose Install Location" screen. Click "Next".

    • If a valid installation of ScrumWorks is detected, the next screen will summarize steps taken by the upgrade process. Click "Next to continue".
    • Note: custom JVM options (such as memory tweaks) will remain intact via this upgrade process.

    Parallel Installation (Preserve Original Installation)
    • To install ScrumWorks Pro in a parallel location (to preserve your original installation), input a Destination Folder other than the path to an existing ScrumWorks installation on the "Choose Install Location" screen. Click "Next" to continue.

    • The installer will present two options: Start with new data, or Migrate existing ScrumWorks data from another installation of ScrumWorks. If an existing local installation is detected, it will pre-populate the "Choose folder" field of the Migrate option.

If selecting the migrate option, be sure that the existing ScrumWorks server to be migrated is shut down. Migrating data from an existing ScrumWorks server will not affect the existing installation. Note, only one ScrumWorks server can be run at any one time.

    • Import ScrumWorks data from another server. It is possible to import an existing ScrumWorks database from another server during this step of the install process. Choose the "Migrate existing ScrumWorks data... " option and set the "Choose Folder" location to the location of valid ScrumWorks database files (scrumworks.properties and scrumworks.script). If it is first necessary to obtain the ScrumWorks database from another server, use the backup process on source server and copy the resulting directory and database files to the destination server.

    • Start with new data. Select this option if you wish to start with a fresh installation.
    • Note: if your previous installation had non-default JVM options (such as memory settings), these options will not port to your parallel installation.

  5. Choose Start Menu Folder
Click Install to finish the installation.

  6. Confirm your installation
ScrumWorks Pro takes a few moments to start, and once started the login screen shall be visible locally on the via a web browser at http://localhost:8080/scrumworks/.
